Finally we have a real martial artist in the house! She's our new border collie, Jess.
Semi-inflated footballs don't have a chance against her lethal jaws and sharp teeth. The way she throws them around the garden with venom is quite scary. Yet she's so gentle taking biscuits from your hand or snuffling around children. Other times she's like a daft kid herself bouncing around and wanting to play with any sentient being that moves. And on other occasions she just lies there chilling out.
It's her Way. No inner conflict, no anger, totally at peace and doing what she does without struggle. Deadly combat skills yet childlike happy and relaxed. Her power comes from the inside and is kept hidden until needed.
The other night we were out walking. She spotted a couple of suspicious-looking lads hanging around by a car up ahead. She tugged on her lead for us to cross the road which we did. Jess kept her eye on them and gave them a low growl as we passed by. I took the hint and we kept on going.
Even for a mutt the first line of defence is zanshin....

I love it! such a great way of seeing ,the way. your dog reminds me of the three treasures of the tao, patience, simplicity and compassion. My name is gym, by the way and I love your blog. Finally someone that thinks and feels the way I do about the martial arts.
You keep writting and I'll keep reading. Thanx
