I had the dojo to myself tonight. I guess I had a bit of nervous tension to get rid of (no not that way!) After warming up I went into an explosive training routine working on plyometrics - which is about sudden contraction and explosiveness in movement. Think of a 100m runner on the starting blocks at the split second the gun is fired - kaboom!
Roundhouse kicks, side kicks, knee kicks and elbows were the techniques of choice.
After the intense session it was time for kata, and I started with the usual sanchin (both closed and open handed), followed by tensho and naihanchi.
I spent a fair amount of time going over Kushanku - first with some pace, then a few times slowly, slightly different tempos and emphasizing different aspects of movement. I just felt the need to go over the kata half a dozen times or so. It seemed right, and when training it's good just to go with the flow.
Session finished with qigong and stretching. I felt more balanced at the end of it, and I discovered a few minor points of detail for next time.

Wow - great site! It's hard to find decent karate related stuff on the internet, but your site has some pretty interesting articles. My site is here if you want to check it out:
Los Angeles Karate | Sherman Oaks Karate
I want add a blog system soon - maybe we can share some articles in the future...
Thanks, John. I'd love to share some articles - guest writers are always welcome. I have a few more articles planned for the near future. I usually write at weekends, sometimes more often.
I also write at http://linux-audio-music.blogspot.com - when I'm not training I spend my spare time playing with synthesizers and music software.
I enjoyed your website - very professional, and it looks like you have some great kids at your dojo :)
I'm hoping to post some photos of our club soon. Trouble is I go straight to training from work, and we're not allowed cameras on-site (my job is related to the military).
